Incredibly interesting SBS documentary Immigration Nation is released on DVD this month and thanks to the lovely folk at Madman we have five copies of the DVD to give away!

Subtitled The Secret History of Us, Immigration Nation tells the sometimes dark story of Australia’s rise to become one of the most multi-cultural countries in the world. The doco begins at the turn of the 20th Century when the Australian government had a vision – however at the time it was a vision that didn’t include anybody who wasn’t white! It was the devastation of world war two that put an end to such outdated ideas though and by the late 1940′s Australian had a fully fledged Department of Immigration and Arthur Caldwell who was running it at the time made it clear that Australia needed to drastically increase it’s population or go under.

This signaled the start of a mammoth immigration programme with immigrants from all over war ravaged Europe start to arrive and change the fabric of the country, something felt either further following the Vietnam war and the arrival of asian immigrants – these days Australia is a veritable melting pot of different cultures and is all the better for it.

Our competition runs until April 25, 2011. To be in with a chance to win one of five DVD’s of Immigration Nation all you have to do is tell us what year Federation took place in Australia?
