Betty
Grable insured her legs, so
perhaps Elizabeth Montgomery
should have sought cover for her
nose, for, as winsome witch
Samantha Stephens in bewitched,
she relied on its twitching to
cast her benign spells. Samantha
was a role she played for eight
years from 1964 and the series
was produced by her husband,
William Asher.
Keeping it in the
family, it was her dad, actor
Robert Montgomery, who, somewhat
reluctantly, gave Elizabeth her
TV break, offering her a part in
his anthology series, Robert
Montgomery Presents, in the
early 50's.
She
followed this with appearances
in dozens of other series but,
after leaving Bewitched,
Montgomery was generally seen
only in TV movies. She succumbed
to cancer in 1995.
