Coronation Street's formidable Vera Duckworth,
who arrived in Weatherfield in 1976 as one of the girls in
Mike Baldwin's sweat-shop. Leeds-born Elizabeth
Dawn's working life had begun in a real factory, before
progressing via a stint in Woolworth's to singing
in nightclubs.
Street stardom eventually came after
TV commercials, waitressing on
wheeltappers' and
shunters' social club, playing a warden in Crown
Court, guesting with Larry Grayson, minor roles in series
like z cars and country matters, and notable one-off
plays like Kisses at Fifty, Leeds United and The Greenhill
Pals, Other credits include One Foot in the Past.
