Game of Thrones and the surprise return of Jaqen H’ghar

It seems actor Tom Wlaschiha was as surprised as the rest of us by the return of Jaqen H’gha, the assassin appeared at the end of episode two after Arya (Maisie Williams) turned up in Braavos at the House of Black and White. This is a departure from the books as Jaqen has yet to reappear in Martin’s epic.

Most agree that he is replacing the character of the Kindly Man who teaches Arya how to become one of the faceless men. Speaking to blog Making Game of Thrones Wlaschiha said “I had some hope, but it was tricky. The character’s not in the books anymore, so far, at least. I was hoping to be back, but normally what you hope for on Game of Thrones doesn’t happen. When he gave Arya the coin, it was definitely an invitation to come to Braavos and train to become a Faceless Man, but he didn’t know that she was actually going to find him.”

Like the rest of us the actor also agrees there is way more to Jaqen’s story than meets the eye “It seems like there’s some bigger plan behind it. We still don’t know why Jaqen showed up in the first place. It always seemed kind of strange to me that he, with his abilities, would be a prisoner in the black cells in King’s Landing. We still don’t know what his secret agenda is – or if there is a secret agenda.”

Game of Thrones continues on HBO on Sunday nights.
