JAMIE'S MINISTRY OF FOOD

UK / Channel 4 - Fresh One Productions / 4x60 minute episodes / Broadcast 30 September - 21 October 2008 Tuesdays @ 9.00pm

Series Producer: Eve Kay / Executive Producers: Zoe Collins, Daniel Reed

During the second world war, the food situation in Britain was in such crisis that a special Ministry of Food was set up to provide information and practical help to the nation. Jamie Oliver is convinced that we need a similar situation to help re-educate the population that fresh food is best and in four part series he makes a genuine attempt to kick start a revolution.

Following a similar line to his highly succesful school dinners endeavour Jamie heads off to Rotherham (in Yorkshire) where some of the staunchest critics of his school dinners were to be found, not least Julie Critchlow the "burger mum" and this time Jamie wants to inspire not just her but the whole town. Using the theme of Pass It On, Jamie gets together a group of ten non cooks (most of whom seem to live on junk food and bags of crisps) to teach them ten simple recipes with the hope that they will indeed pass them on to their friends and family.

Its an uphill struggle all the way though even despite the fact that Jamie is heavily promoting the whole event and in the second episode turns up at a Rotherham United home game to try and persuade the fans to get involved.

No matter what his critics say Jamie really does have his heart in the right place and he is right Britain as a whole really does need to get back to a more self sustaining natural and fresh way of life and food and at least we can say whether he is ultimately succesful or not if there is a huge swing towards Fresh Food in the way we, as a population, eat.
