JONATHAN CREEK
UK / BBC1 / 1x120m-e 2x90m-e 16x50m-e 6x60m-e / 1997-2004
Creator: David Renwick / Theme Music: Variation on Danse Macrabre by Julian Stewart Lindsay / Producer: Susan BelbinĀ
Crime drama series Jonathan Creek follows magic expert Jonathan Creek who teams up with Investigative writer Madelaine Magellan to investigate apparently unsolvable crimes. Jonathan, with his mop of wildly curly hair and duffel coat comes across as something of a nerd on the surface but he lived in a fantastic converted windmill in the East Anglian countryside.
Jonathan was actually the man who put together the tricks for popular TV magician Adam Klaus and his highly logical mind lent itself well to the solving of the highly baffling crimes featured in the series. When Caroline Quentin dropped out of the series in 2001 she was replaced by Julia Sawalha as Carla Borrego (she debuted in the feature length Christmas Special Satan's Chimney. When the next series aired in 2003 Carla was the host of her own crime solving TV show with Jonathan on hand to solve the mysteries she is involved with. Adrian Edmondson also became a regular in a smaller role as Carla's husband and producer of her TV show.
Following a gap of five years the BBC have just announced that a new feature length special is to air Christmas 2008.
