BANANAS IN PYJAMAS

Preschool entertainment. Playroom stories featuring actors in costumes (Bananas and Teddy Bears). Australian television's biggest overseas earner with more than $1 billion in retail sales. ABC alone making a net profit of more than $50 million from the series. For the 2002 season 80 new episode were filmed and a raft of new friends for the bananas were brought in, including Camembert the Cow, Dolly the Sheep, Pedro the Pig, Chicken's Gregory and Peck, other characters already in the show include Rat in a Hat and Teddy's Amy, Lulu and Morgan. The two actors who played B1 and B2  recently left the show (although they still provide the voices) to be replaced by Michael James and Benjamin Blaylock.

Entertainment. Madcap exploits of a pop group of four furry animals, Bingo (a Gorilla) , Drooper (a Lion), Fleegle (a Dog) and Snorky (an Elephant). Sandwiched in-between these segments were an assortment of items such as a cartoon versions of The Arabian Knights (size of a Pachiderm! comic tales of Prince Turhan, Princess Nidor, Bez, Farik and Raseem), The Micro Adventure (The Carter family led by Professor Carter are shrunk to a tiny size to examine wildlife and get involved in adventures) and The Three Musketeers (the adventures of Porthos, Aramis and the rest). There was also a live action adventure story called Danger Island featuring a young Jan Michael-Vincent.

THE BASIL BRUSH SHOW

Comedy series in which posh glove puppet Basil Brush hosted his own variety show. Derek Fowlds, Rodney Bewes, Roy North,  Howard Williams and Billy Boyle all co-presented. The character of Basil first came to prominence on the David Nixon show. Basil's catchphrase was 'BOOM - BOOM' and Owen was the man operating Basil. The puppet Basil was actually created by Peter Firmin. Many star names made appearances on the show including the Dad?s Army Cast, Princess Anne and Abba. The show was mostly written by George Martin. In 1980 Basil appeared on the children?s show Let?s Read With Basil Brush.

Variety/music. A series starring the then popular Bay City Roller in a mixture of music and sketches. Animated scifi action series. Two warring robotic races,  the Maximals and the Predacons, both able to transform into all manner of fearsome beasts, engage in regular battle. The show is completely computer generated.

THE BEATLES

USA / King Features / 39x20m-e / 1965

Animation: Halas and Batchelor

Much in the spirit of A Hard Day's Night this popular animation had the fab four become the first living people to be turned into regular cartoon characters on network TV. The plots were inconsequential but the Beatles were at the height of their fame when the show hit the air. As the shows had at least two songs per episode pretty much all of the Beatles then catalogue made an appearance. Other than their music the Beatles themselves didn't appear and had little creative input.
Made by King Features in both England and Australia the show was very popular until Space Ghost took over in the ratings. The songs on the show featured a kind of early karaoke with the words appearing on the bottom of the screen for people to sing along to.
