LINKSTHE JETSONS SEASON TWO VOLUME ONE
Warner Home Video / Region 1 / Released June 2009
One of the true classics of 1960's television and a legendary slice of animated sitcom, The Jetsons second season arrives on DVD this month with the release of Season Two Volume One featuring 21 futuristic episodes. The Jetsons was one of the first prime time sitcoms (although by this second season it had moved to the classic Saturday morning spot) and followed the antics of the typically suburban Jetson family, only difference being that the family lived in slap bang in the middle of the 21st Century, a time when, so it seemed to early 1960's minds at any rate, when the world had gone scifi crazy. The Jetsons, who live high in the clouds in Orbit City, have every possible convenience you can think, everything from their own robot, a conveyor belt for their dog so they don't have to take him out for walks and dad George has his own flying bubble car. What's amazing is that so many of the gizmos and gadgets featured on the toon have now come into effect, from automatic doors to the completely computerised world that we seem to live in.
The humour naturally mostly comes from the fact that the Jetsons are just your everyday family with the same kind of problems and issues that beset every other sitcom family of the time. What many people probably don't realise is that there was only one season of 1960's episodes and the second season didn't actually arrive on our screens until 1985! This three disc set features the first 21 episodes, the animators have done a great job in keeping true to the original thoughand if it wasn't for the slightly more modern style and a few new additions (including new pet Orbitty) then you wouldn't even know...
Great fun and extremely entertaining for audiences young and old, this is a must see collection. The main extra is The Jetsons Return to the Future, offering up plenty of background to how the show came to be.
