STINGERS SEASON SIX

Released by Beyond Home Entertainment on 6 January 2009

This month Beyond bring us the Sixth season of high octane crime drama Stingers, starring Peter Phelps and Kate Kendall, the series follows the cases of a specialist undercover unit attached to the Victoria Police Force. With it's gritty and realistic feel Stingers was always a cut above most other cop shows, a bit ahead of its time actually, obvious when you look at the success of the recent and similar Underbelly; Peter Phelps, whom we spoke to recently, remarked that one of the reasons for this was the fact that so many of the storylines were based on actual cases with pretty much only the names being changed.

Season five had seen some major storylines culminating in the death of leading character Oscar (in a great plotline that saw him basically giving his life to save that of Church's) and the departure of Mac, the head of the Unit, she had become too involved with a major villain and ending up doing the Harold with him. So season six sees some major changes going on, not least with newcomer Luke Harris (played by the always excellent Gary Sweet) being given the job of head of the Unit, not only that but following a major inquiry the team are forced to move from their Crimplex factory base back to Police Headquarters. Over riding all this is Church's almost reckless obsession with bringing down Conrad (played by Dion Mills), the hitman who shot down Oscar, even going so far as to sleep with Conrad's lawyer Ingrid Burton (Rebecca Gibney) in order to gain incriminating evidence. Peter Phelp's really proves his mettle as an actor this season too, he is the focus of most of the episodes and doesn't disappoint.

It's not all grit and darkness though as newgirl Chris Dicheria (Jacinta Stapleton, another newcomer to the series who made a lasting impression) is actually drafted into the squad after trying to arrest Church whilst he is undercover. Chris is soon playing a major part in the season and Jacinta herself becoming one of the main stays of the rest of the series.

With Beyond committed to releasing all eight seasons of this fantastic and exciting show there has never been a better opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of Stingers.
