Life of Pi (2012, Suraj Sharma, Gerard Depardieu)

Life of Pi

Ang Lee’s quadruple-Oscar-winning adventure Life of Pi is based on Yann Martel’s best-selling novel and stars Suraj Sharma, plus some impressive CGI. When his small zoo in Pondicherry fails, Santosh Patel (Adil Hussain) packs his family and his animals onto a ship and they set sail for a new life in Canada. But disaster strikes, and Santosh’s son Pi (Sharma) finds himself floating in a large lifeboat, with just some of the animals for company. As Pi begins the first of his 227 days adrift, he gets an unwanted companion: Peter Parker, the zoo’s Bengal tiger.

As their enforced proximity unfolds, boy and cat will reach a wary accommodation. But perhaps Pi’s most difficult task will be persuading anyone to believe his story when his solo voyage eventually comes to an end.

The film’s Oscars were for best directing (Ang Lee), best cinematography (Claudio Miranda), best visual effects and best original score.
