New Scotland Yard: Two Into One Will Go (ITV 8 Dec 1972)

In Two Into One Will Go Ward and Kingdom have been investigating a stolen car racket with vehincles being shipped to Europe to order. Ward’s contact on the inside David McKenzie aka Fangio calls him and tells him he needs his help but during the call gunshots are heard. There is blood at the scene but McKenzie is missing…

Later McKenzie is found brutally murdered, Kingdom and Ward are certain that “businessman” John Randall is the man responsible but he has a cast iron alibi.

We know that Randall is the guilty party having put “the frighteners” on couple Robin and Ann Denbury who have turned to Randall to help cover up a hit and run accident. Randall is very cock-sure about not being found out even going so far as to agree to an identity parade (it turns out the shotgun used to kill McKenzie was bought over the counter from a gun shop a couple of weeks before.)

Quite a few familiar faces appearing in this episode too including the gorgeous Pamela Salem, George Baker, Ruth Madoc as a female detective and David Garfield. Before Baker settled into playing Chief Inspector Wexford in the Ruth Rendell Mysteries he excelled at playing these kind of strong businessmen bad guys.
