Nurse on Wheels is an entertaining and often touching jaunt through rural England starring JULIET MILLS as new district nurse Joanna Jones, in the sleepy little village of Blandley where everybody knows everybody else’s business. Setting out jauntily on her first round of patients, Joanna crashes into Henry Edward’s (RONALD LEWIS) car – her first encounter with the handsome farmer.
Joanna continues her rounds undaunted, meeting some of her patients who cause a series of amusing incidents. There is the formidable Mrs. Beacon (RENEE HOUSTON) whose husband is confined to bed; George Judd (NORMAN ROSSINGTON), who has an eye for the women and tries to make a pass at the pretty new nurse; Dr. Harold (RONALD HOWARD) the local doctor and secret admirer of the Vicar’s daughter; and the fussy Miss Farthingale (ATHENE SEYLER).
Joanna is gradually accepted by the villagers while her mother dithers around their cottage creating chaos all round when she plays cupid and tries to attach Joanna to Dr. Harold and later to Henry Edwards. Joanna makes her peace with Henry, but when she gives him a lift in her car the ride becomes a hair-raising experience with the local constable ending up in the village duck pond. George decides that it is time Joanna and Henry got together and they reconcile themselves to the fact that they can’t live without each other.
