Musical remake of Three Coins in the Fountain (1954) – in turn based on the novel Coins in the Fountain by John H. Secondari – from the same director. A trio of alluring American ladies (Ann-Margret, Carol Lynley, Pamela Tiffin) board together in Spain, searching for love and adventure. Each eventually finds herself in a romance (with Lawrence, McKay, and Franciosa, respectively) but first some evasions and misplaced affections for a married man are added to make things interesting.
Romanian born director of The Pleasure Seekers, Jean Negulesco, lived and worked as an artist in Paris during the ’20s. His teacher was the sculptor Brancusi and one of his friends was the painter Modigliani.
Received an Academy Award Nomination for Best Music Adaptation. Songs by Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn.
