Tora! Tora! Tora! (TCF 1970, Martin Balsam, Joseph Cotton)

Tora! Tora! Tora!

Tora! Tora! Tora! was a hands-across-the-waters production with Japanese directors depicting the preparation to attack Pearl Harbor and an American director showing the U.S.’s cluelessness.

The actual invasion makes the first hour worth enduring. Japanese master Akira Kurosawa shot the first few days of this before fleeing the studio strictures.

Jason Robards, Jr., who plays Lieutenant General Walter C. Short in the movie, was present at the actual bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Robards received a Navy Cross for his wartime service.
