Between Two Worlds (Warner 1944, John Garfield, Paul Henreid)

Between Two Worlds

In Between Two Worlds A young couple are unable to escape the war in Europe. Despairing, they return to their apartment, and turn on the gas, determined to die. They awake on a boat bound for the Other World, and realize that they and their fellow passengers are dead. After a lengthy journey, all are met and questioned by The Examiner, who will determine the ultimate destination of each. Initially sentenced, as suicides, to remain passengers on the purgatorial boat forever, the pair must persuade The Examiner that they deserve better.

The movie is a remake of Outward Bound (1930), based on the play by Sutton Vane; the cast of the first version was headed by Leslie Howard, Helen Chandler and Douglas Fairbanks Jr.
