In The West Point Story, a song-and-dance role for James Cagney, we see him as a Broadway producer who stages a show written by a plebe (Gordon MacRae) at West Point and gets a taste of the harsh Academy life.

Jimmy’s in fine form, and Doris Day has a turn as a star who entices MacRae to go AWOL in Hollywood. Academy Award Nomination for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture.
