Robert Mitchum gives one of his best and most underrated performances in The Wonderful Country. He plays an American gun runner who crosses and recrosses the Texas-Mexico border in order to procure weapons for a Mexican leader. He falls in love with unhappy Army wife Julie London and meanwhile must fend off various hostile Anglos, Mexicans, and Indians.
This melancholy, contemplative films is one of the most beautiful of all Westerns.
