Troy - Doris Troy Another well-intentioned Beatles project: Troy had been singing backup on rock
and R&B records for years, and she was signed by Apple to do her own stuff. Like
Billy Preston's similar effort, this flopped, though unlike Preston, Troy really
never got a second chance. She has a fine voice, but nothing exceptional or
distinctive, and her songwriting is very ordinary light R&B, both lyrics ("Don't
Call Me No More") and music (the single "Ain't That Cute," produced by
Harrison). As with Preston, Harrison rounds up a zillion big name guests: Steve
Stills appears and contributes a couple of tunes (including "Special Care");
Ringo drums; Preston and Harrison are prominent; and Clapton is apparently on |
