Adams
Career: Adams' 1985 European concert tour with Tina Turner finally focused the big-time limelight on an artist who had been building a steadily growing reputation over the decade since he started in club groups around Vancouver, British Columbia, at 16. Within a year of starting out, Adams was writing with Jim Vallance, their songs giving hits to Prism, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, lan Lloyd, Bob Welch, Kiss, and others. Late 1979 recording deal with A&M led to four solid months touring USA. Touring as opening act for Kinks, Loverboy and Foreigner in 1982 led to breakthrough album Cuts Like A Knife which went platinum and contained US hit single Straight From The Heart, covered successfully by lan Lloyd and Bonnie Tyier. Since then Adams has successfully pursued policy of touring almost continually throughout US and' world, establishing reputation as consistent if hardly original performer Policy has also paid off in terms of record sales, with platinum album Into the Fire prime example of Adams' across-the-board appeal. Subsequent absence from recording studios compensated for by occasional charity date, including Nelson Mandela's 70th Birthday Party and Roger Waters' The Wall. All-around journeyman rocker, Adams takes craftsman-like approach to his profession, with occasional reward of mega single or LP such as summer 199's1 hit Everything I Do (I Do It For You) from Robin Hood movie which created record for UK charts when it remained at No. 1 for 16 weeks. |
