Artwoods The Artwoods were formed in 1964, and over the next two years became a popular live attraction. Singer Arthur Wood, from whom the band took their name, was the elder brother of The Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood. He was the vocalist with Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated for a short period in 1962. Musically the Artwoods were somewhere in-between the raw R'n'B of the Animals and the pure blues of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Unfortunately, they never developed effectively as songwriters and relied almost entirely on cover versions of American R'n'B and blues material. Although none of their singles made any impact on the charts, they did produce one excellent album (Art Gallery) . The group broke up in mid '67 with Hartley going on to play with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, and Lord becoming a founder member of Deep Purple. |
