The Barron Knights

Comedy-pop band / 1959-continuing / Line Up:

Duke D'Mond - vocals / Barron Anthony - guitar/vocals / Butch Baker - guitar/vocals / Paul Longford - bass guitar/vocals / Dave Ballinger - drums

The Barron Knights (from Leighton Buzzard) formed during the closing months of 1959, but they first achieved a degree of fame in 1963 when they were one of the support acts on The Beatles' Christmas shows at the Finsbury Park Astoria in London. Indeed, they would become one of the few acts to tour with both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Chart success didn't come until the summer of 1964 when "Call Up The Groups" - a medley of parodies of popular hits of the day - reached UK #3. Most of their records contained some sort of humorous content and they managed another couple of top ten records, both in a similar vein as their first, before they were consigned to the cabaret circuit. They managed to make a chart comeback in the late '70s before fading again. The group is still active today, making records and touring all over the world with three original members from the 60s line-up.
