The Creation

Pop group. A London mod band who had a pop-art and punk-like feel (think the early Who), The Creation had their highest charting single with "Painter Man," although most people today are most familiar with its runner-up, the hard rocking "Making Time," (which appears on the soundtrack "Rushmore.") They had a very raw, grinding sound produced by guitar player Eddie Phillips' innovative playing. Their live shows were legendary (singer Kenny Pickett used to spray painted images of naked women on the backdrop on stage) but they were more popular on the European continent than in the U.K. or U.S. and now enjoy something of a cult following. The Creation broke up in 1968.
