England win the World Cup

Event / 1966

"There's some people on the pitch...They think it's all over...It is Now" Probably England's greatest sporting moment, England beating Germany in the 1966 World Cup Final played at Wembley Stadium in front of Queen Elizabeth and millions watching around the world. With the teams drawing at full time the game went into extra time and the game being settled by two controversial goals, first Geoff Hurst shoots and hits the underside of the crossbar the ball (according to the English) then bouncing over the line for a goal (the German's disputed it but the goal stood) and then with just seconds left and with people starting to run onto the pitch Hurst again ran with the ball and scored a humdinger of a goal in the German top left hand corner. The final whistle almost immediately blew England being the victors by 4 goals to 2.
