One of the best ways of actually getting a real hand on modern history is by having a look at the old newsreels that were a weekly highlight of most peoples cinema viewing for much of the 20th century, Reel DVD are releasing a fantastic 8 disc box set from the Cinesound Movietone Newsreel Archives next January and we have four of the box sets for you to win.

This extraordinary collection holds up a mirror to triumph and disaster, to the glorious and the banal, and demonstrates how ordinary Australians, as well as its heroes, moulded Australia as a nation.

The stunning series is a fascinating insight into historical and everyday events that shaped our world and our lives over the decades. From news, sports, politics and disasters this is a nostalgic and important record of times gone by.

In 2003 UNESCO placed the Cinesound Movietone Archive, alongside the Endeavour journal of Captain Cook, on its Memory of the World Register.
