AGATHA CHRISTIE'S MARPLE: Nemesis
ABC DVD / Region 4 / Released April 2008
Featuring Geraldine McEwan, Richard E Grant, Johnny Briggs, Amanda Burton, George Cole
Given the power of the character I suppose its only natural that every generation should have their own Miss Marple, in the 60's it was Margaret Rutherford, in the 80's we had Joan Hickson and now in the noughties we have Geraldine McEwan who has done a masterful job in making the role her own in these sumptuous new feature length all star productions.
What a major shame then that she recently announced that she will not be making further episodes, still there is good news as ABC DVD releases two more stories from the third season this month and here we take a look at Nemesis, which was the last Miss Marple novels written by Agatha Christie and sees the elderly spinster sleuth investigating a crime on behalf of a recently dead old friend, Mr Rafiel. Finding herself on a bus tour with her nephew Raymond West (a rather ebullient Richard E Grant) she soon learns that her fellow passengers are all connected in some way and there is more to the trip than meets the eye.
Pretty much every role is played by some one well known and big names in Nemesis include George Cole, Amanda Burton (as a nun), Richard E Grant, emily Woof, Ronni Ancona, former Goodie Graeme Garden and Coronation Streets Mike Baldwin (aka Johnny Briggs) to name just a few.
A real treat this, from the gorgeous looking period setting to the casting and McEwan's delicious playing of Marple.
