AT HOME WITH THE EUBANKS
A Christmas compilation broadcast 24th December 2003 on Channel Five at 8.00pm
Coming on like a lo-fi version of The Osbornes, At Home With the Eubanks has been one of Channel Five’s big successes this year. This handy compilation draws together the “best” moments of the ten episode show.
Following the former boxer Chris and his wife and four kids for six months with the cameras basically living with the family in their large house in Hove, Brighton where one room is given over to Chris’s wardrobe (a room that not even his wife is allowed to enter) At Home With The Eubanks turns out to be compulsive viewing, Eubank is such a showman you can't help but like him. Often pretty stagy Eubank is very much a non new man (he has to be coaxed into cooking a Sunday lunch - which takes him five hours to cook). Also Eubank is the ultimate poseur, taking his big mac truck into town to buy a coffee, riding through the streets on his Harley or his three wheeled scooter and taking a 500 mile round trip to visit his barber in Manchester .
Karren, Eubank’s wife, is pretty longsuffering (but more than gives as good as she gets) but the family come over as much more well adjusted than the Osbornes and Eubank appears to be a good dad to his kids (there is a lot of laughter in the house). Although playing up to the camera’s the Eubanks actually appear as a pretty likeable bunch.
One poignant moment sees Chris reunited with fellow boxer Michael Watson (In 1991 Chris fought Michael Watson and nearly killed him, after having spent 8 years in a wheelchair Watson recently walked the route of the London marathon, Chris walked with him.)
Worth looking out for this Christmas.
