THE BEATLES BIGGEST SECRETS

For a long time in the world of the Beatles it was very much a closed shop to outsiders, definitely a case of what happened on the road stayed on the road, now with the passage of time, almost like official secrets act, things are now starting to emerge about the hidden life and times of the greatest musical sensation of the 20th century. The Beatles transformed the British scene and became a cultural phenomenon. But behind the well-scrubbed image was a backstage world of sex, infidelity and drug-fuelled creativity.

With new and exclusive interviews, The Beatles’ Biggest Secrets, which airs Thursday 13 December 2007 @ 9.30pm on the ABC, delves into the inside story of the world's greatest ever pop group, with explosive revelations about the extraordinary life and behaviour of Liverpool's favourite sons. This is The Beatles at their best - and their worst: the first fully rounded portrait of the Fab Four.

The Beatles’ Biggest Secrets tracks back to the early 1960s at the time of the group's formation and their early days in Liverpool. The story then travels forward through their careers, from learning their craft in dingy strip joints in Hamburg, Germany, to global domination as the world's greatest pop icons. It covers their sexual adventures, romances, McCartney's paternity suits, rumours of Lennon's gay interlude, the drugs, the money, the rivalry, and the break up of the band.

The program features many interviews with significant individuals who were part of The Beatles phenomena. Allan Williams, The Beatles' first manager, talks about his duty to keep the band's girlfriends a secret from the press, paying off women who had affairs with the band to keep them quiet. Tony Barrow, The Beatles’ PR man talks about Lennon's relationship with the band's homosexual manager, Brian Epstein. "Lennon was an intrepid sexual adventurer," says Barrow. "He would have tried out anything."

While celebrating the band's brilliance, this program also charts those incidents some would prefer to be kept quiet. Interviews with their chauffeur, concert promoters, journalists, broadcasters, PA's and family and friends reveal the hidden backstage world where dreams turned to disappointment as the Fab Four buckled under the pressure of universal super stardom.
