BONNIE AND CLYDE 2 DISC SPECIAL EDITION

Warner Home Video / Region 1 / Release Date: 25 March 2008

Featuring Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, Gene Hackman, Michael J. Pollard

The mid to late 1960's saw a real revolution in cinema, a whole new realism was embraced and very much leading the way was Arthur Penn's superlative 1967 take on the Bonnie and Clyde legend, which has just been released in a stunning 2 disc set by Warner.

Starring an in his prime Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway (who has never looked sexier than here) as the doomed lovers, who, in the depressed 1930's embrark on a country wide robbing spree.

Clyde and his fellow gang members almost drift into crime by accident after telling a struggling farmer that they rob banks for a living (at this stage they didn't but felt they should be), it's not too long before B & C are being trailed by an ever growing police force.

Bonnie and Clyde is often signposted as the precursor of the ultraviolent vein of movies that clogged up the cinema screens of the late 60's and early 70's but while it is pretty violent (at times Penn seems to use the camera like a gun), it is also incredibly beautiful, the dustbowl elegiac and the same time real. The script by Robert Benton and David Newman is fantastic, echoing as it does, such vintage classics as You Only Live Once and They Live By Night. Watch out too for early appearances by Gene Hackman and Michael J Pollard as members of Clyde's gang.

Definitely one of the best movies of all time, this wonderful set gives it the sheen it deserves. Disc one features a very crisp, digitally remastered version of the movie and the original theatrical trailer.

Disc two features the top notch doco Revolution! The Making of Bonnie and Clyde; A history channel doco called Love and Death: The Story of B & C telling the story of the real couple. There are also pretty rare snippits from the archives featuring Warren BEatty's wardrobe tests and some additional scenes.
