THE BRADY BUNCH - THE SECOND SEASON

Paramount Home Entertainment / Region 4 / 4 Disc set / Released March 2008.

It's pretty much official that The Brady Bunch are the first family of American sitcom, one of the most quintessential sitcoms of all time, the show has just had its second season released by Paramount.

As surely every single person in the universe knows The Brady Bunch is the story of widow Carol (with three girls) who marries widower Mike (with three boys) and bringing them up in the Los Angeles suburbs. All living together in a four bedroom (and two bathroom) house with a slightly kooky house-keeper Alice and a shaggy dog called Tiger, the family may have their arguments but come together in the best sitcom style by the episodes end.

What is quite surprising when you look at the stats is the fact that the show never actually gained huge ratings during it's time on air (1969-74) but over the years almost constant re-runs means it has been a presence in the lives of more than one generation and of course deep down we all wish that our family was the perfect Brady family.

One of the themes of this second season is the growing up of oldest boy Greg, from getting his first job to wanting a place of his own, and the girls too are showing signs of spreading their wings. The joy of these DVD releases of course is in being able to sit down and watch a bunch of episodes and watch the natural progression of the characters.

For anyone in need of a bit of comfort and succour and relief from the stresses of our modern day world then look no further than an episode or seven of The Brady Bunch.
