BRYDEN AND DAVIS IN HUMAN REMAINS
BBC DVD / MA15+ / Released March 2008
Featuring Rob Bryden, Julia Davis
Whilst they may not be household names Rob Bryden and Julia Davis are two of the most talented people working in British comedy today and this truly mind blowing faux documentary series goes to prove. Human Remains is a set of 6 fly on the wall documentaries following a sextet of couples as they expose the dark underbelly of their relationships.
All the couples are played by Bryden and Davis of course (they also wrote the series) and like most of their work its the black heart of the couples lives that drives the humour, but what is truly magical is the very ordinariness, on the surface anyway, of the couples lives of the couples lives, such as the couple running the bed and breakfast who turn out to be swingers.
You certainly wouldn't clasiify Human Remains as a sitcom or even a straight forward comedy but it does have that melancholic centre that often underpins the most successful comedy shows and it is also one of those shows guaranteed to stant the test of time. Definitely one not to be missed.
Extras feature audio commentaries on all episodes, a look at the fake group Fonte and Bame who feature in the show, a brilliant multi-angle look at some of the original improvs, numerous deleted scenes, out-takes and wardrobe and make up tests. Finally there is also a photo gallery.
