DALZIEL AND PASCOE SEASON TWO

BBC DVD / 2 disc set / Region 4 / Released April 2008

Featuring Warren Clarke, Colin Buchanan

Dalziel and Pascoe is now in its 12th year and shows no signs of letting up, one of the reasons no doubt is the fact that there are usually only four or five feature length stories per season. Season two, from 1997, is released this month and features four cases of Detective Superintendant Andy Dalziel (pronouned Dee-Al) and Detective Sergeant Peter Pascoe. Dalziel (palyed by Warren Clarke) is all bluff, non onsense Yorkshire man whilst Pascoe has studied sociology as university and is certainly more gentle of spirit than Dalziel.

Season two sees the duo investigating murder at a guesthouse, a Shakespeare quoting serial killer, murder amongst rose enthusiasts and Pascoe being forced to investigate his boss. There is a high quality guest star roster too, with appearances from the likes of Keith Barron, PAtrick Ryecart, Mel Martin and Emma Cunniffe.

Based on the erudite novels by Reginald Hill the show carries much of the feeling of the books, helped in no small part by superior scripts from such heavyweights as Alan Plater and Malcolm Bradbury.

Dalziel and Pascoe is not only an intelligent series then but also a hugely entertaining one too.
