GRAND DESIGNS: AMERSHAM

If you haven't had chance to catch up with this series then you definitely need to do your self a favour and make time to spend some time with our favourite show on TV. ABC are showing this UK series on Thursdays @ 6.05pm, starting with the very first series. The show began in 1999 and the seventh series is currently airing in the UK (in fact it's become something of an institution, what with a live exhibition every year and a best selling magazine).

This week host Kevin McCloud pays a visit to Amersham where an architect and his family are converting a Victorian water tower. Andrew designs and builds commercial buildings for a living and is using some of these techniques in his own house.

The water tower will be made up of bedroom space, one on top of the other, and the main living space will be a very modern single storey building, to the side of the tower.

The roof of the living quarters will be covered in turf so as not to detract from the surrounding green belt. Andrew's commercial experience means the construction goes very smoothly and the family moves into the main space before the water tower conversion begins.
