HAPPY DAYS - THE SECOND SEASON

Paramount Home Entertainment / Region 4 / 4 disc set / Released March 2008

Featuring Henry Winkler, Ron Howard, Tom Bosley, Marion Ross, Donny Most, Anson Williams

Back in the 1970's nostalgia for the wholesome 1950's was at a major h igh, every you looked there were glimpses of the era, not least on film with American Graffitti and on TV with the legendary Happy Days, season two has just been released by Paramount, with the show really hitting its stride this is seventies US comedy at its best.

Although the Fonz is the character most people associate with the show he was still only a secondary player for the first two or three seasons and the show at this point in time is still all about the every day suburban family The Cunninnghams, hardware shop owning Howard and his wife Marion and their children Chuck, Richie and Joanie (in later seasons Chuck is written out and the family behave as he never even existed!). It's a classic portrayal of what every one imagined surburban America was really like in the 1950's with most of the episodes revolving around Richie (Ron Howard got top billing in the show) such as getting a first car or wanting to move out of home, starting a band, falling in and out of love. He is helped and hindered in equal measure by his two best friends Potsy Webber (Anson WIlliams) and Ralph Malph (Donny Most). Fonzie(Henry Winkler) is the super cool biker dude who the boys all aspire to be like and the girls all want to get with.

Happy Days is a very funny show and stand outs in this season include Joanie going on a first date with the Fonz's just like him nephew Spike (much to Richie's distress); Richie going on a TV game show called Big Money and best of all the episode Guess Who's Coming to Christmas, the first real episode to explore more of Fonzie's back story and somewhat lonely home life.

A must have then for any fan of classic TV.
