INTO THE WILD

Paramount Home Entertainment / Region 4 / Released 27 March 2008

Written and directed by Sean Penn and featuring Emile Hirsch, William Hurt, Marcia Gay Harden, Vince Vaughn

Based on the real life experiences of Jon Krakauer Into The Wild tellsthe amazing story of 22 year old Christopher McCandless who gives up a promising future to find his true self in the wilds of Alaska.

Freshly graduated from college and from a privileged background Christopher McCandless (Hirsch) walks away from his friends and family in search of a greater meaning from life. For two years his odyssey takes him closer to the Jack London tales he loves until finally he arrives deep in Alaskan interior, where for a hundred and twelve days he struggles to stay alive...

Into the Wild is an ultimately tragic but supremely uplifting story told with great care and attention by Sean Penn, highly deserving of its sackful of awards and oscar nominations. The story of McCandless has turned into something of a cult in the USA and I'm sure his story is going to find a resonance with a lot of people around the world. Hirsch is superb in the title role as McCandless who really wanted to set the limits of his endurance and of course that is ultimately what he did, films like Into the Wild don't come along very often these days and when they do they are to be savoured. Everything about the movie, from the Eddie Vedder soundtrack to the stunning cinematography (Penn filmed the movie in most of the locations McCandless stayed) to the realisation that life is there to be lived every single day makes for incredible viewing experience.

Extras come in the shape of the theatrical trailer and two informative behind the scenes features.
