PLAGUE SHIP by CLIVE CUSSLER and JACK DU BRUL
Published by Penguin
So phenomally popular is Clive Cussler that he has joined that rank of major league authors whose brand is now bigger than the writer himself, like James Patterson, Cussler is co-writing most of his books these days and here he teams up with Jack Du Brul for a fifth superb thrilling adventure in the Oregon Files series Du Brul has contributed to two other stories in the series so knows the characters inside out.
In Plague Ship, Captain Juan Cabrillo (a typically brilliant Cussler creation, he is a no nonsense one legged maverick who isn't averse to stepping over the line now and again) is leading his crew aboard the Oregon, which of course from the outside looks like a run down leak machine but inside its a different story - a state of the art machine choc-a-block full of advance weaponry and the most sophisticated intelligence gathering equipment available, and its cre, well they are ade up of elite ex-members of the military and various spy organisations; Cabrillo undertakes special missions for governments around the world - if they can afford it.
Trouble starts for the crew this time out as they are returning from a typically top secret mission is the Persion Gulf and they come across an apparently lifeless cruise ship adrift in the sea, closer inspection reveals hundreds of dead bodies on board and after getting a little too up close and personal Cabrillo sets off a chain of explosions, finding just a single survivor, Juan only just manages to escape with his life himself; Back on board the Oregon, Cabrillo realises that he may have just stumbled across something with deadly consequences for the entire human race.
The title naturally tells you which way the wind is blowing as Cabrillo and his crew cross swords with a cult who have plans to destroy the world.
Told at breakneck pace, The Plague Ship, is thrilling action adventure at its very best.
