SHOWSTOPPERS

Warner Home Video / Region 1 / 95 minutes

Featuring Faune Chambers, Angell Conwell, Tamala Jones, Clifton Powell, Fredro Starr,

Stepping is a dance craze that has really taken hold of late, Showstoppers, a new release from Warner, dazzles with its vibrant take on the dance format with a tale of a group of young college girls out to succeed against the odds.

The story centers around Step Captain Destiny (played by Faune Chambers) and her Lambda sorority as they prepare to compete in the National Stepping Championship. Of course in best teen drama fashion Destiny has an arch rival in the shape of one time friend Pam (Angell Conwell). Add to this complications of the heart as Destiny tries to win back her long time love Fabian (Bryce Wilson) and you have a stage set for a battle royale dance fest.

Director Barry Bowles has put together some great set pieces to place this teen genre drama a cut above other similarly themed titles. Some of the dance sequences really do dazzle the eye and despite the fact that many of the cast are unknowns they all gel together very well.

While it might deal with the kind of subject that will see it maybe marginalised within a mainstream audience there is enough drama, excitement and pure entertainment here to appeal to everyone.

Main extra is a featurette called Stepping Out: The Real Showstoppers which traces the beginnings of the stepping movement and also includes interviews with cast and crew.
