When it was shown in the UK a couple of years ago The Complete Guide to Parenting (Wednesdays @ 8.35pm on ABC) failed to make an impression thanks to some bad transmission times and very little publicity but its worth spending some time with, Peter Davison is definitely experiencing something of a renaiisance at the moment, all over our TV screens.
Davison plays Professor George Hartley, a best-selling author, respected child psychology expert and a highly esteemed childcare guru. There isn't a parenting problem for which he hasn't got a rational, reasoned answer. However, notwithstanding all this theory, George has never quite got round to the actual practical side of parenting. That is, until now.
In this episode it is Halloween and George and Jamie Hartley have been invited to a party at the Tyler household. Jamie has no interest in going but has been fixed up to play with classmate Zak Tyler. Zak's dad is television chef Marko Tyler and so George has every interest in going, as does his personal assistant, celebrity junkie Karen.
As the party gets underway, George demonstrates his parenting skills by locking Jamie in a room with a violent Zak while designated driver Karen demonstrates her restraint by getting blind drunk.
With the adults in costume, trick or treating and behaving like children, it's time for the children to show they can act like adults. And finding George's car keys provides them with the ideal opportunity...
