BEN STILLER IN THE HEARTBREAK KID

Paramount Home Entertainment / Region 4 / 11 minutes / Released March 2008

Featuring Ben Stiller, Jerry Stiller, Michelle Monaghan, Malin Akerman, Rob Corddry, Carlos Mencia, Scott Wilson, Danny McBride and Polly Holliday

These days mention the name Charles Grodin and people will likely look blankly at you but back in the 1970's he was quite a major player with several lead roles to his credit and making his biggest hit with the Neil Simon scripted The Heartbreak Kid, which has just been revamped by The Farrelly Brothers of all people and stars Ben Stiller in the Grodin role.

The story is an absolute corker, Stiller plays Eddie, 40 years old and a long confirmed bachelor who finally takes the plunge with what he thinks is the girl of his dreams (the gorgeous Malin Akerman) but when she turns into the stuff of nightmares he is sure he has made the biggest mistake of his life and this is all still on the honeymoon! A severe bout of sunburn sees Lila left bedridden for several days but Eddie is not too bothered as he is sure he has now met the real girl of his dreams in the shape of Miranda (Michelle Monaghan)!

The Heartbreak Kid sees Stiller doing what he does best and turning in a performance of high farce and this being a Farrelly brothers you can be sure that the gross out factor is never too far away from being over loaded, in fact you'll only have to witness their cure for a jellyfish sting to know that's the case.

The cast all handle the material well and watch for an appearance from Stiller's real life dad, the legendary Jerry, playinhg Eddie's foul-mouthed father.

There are plenty of extras too including audio commentary from the directors, lots of deleted scenes, a blooper reel, and a quartet of behind the scenes featurettes.
