TOP GEAR'S MID LIFE CRISIS CARS

Published by Random House

It's a well known fact, most men reach a certain age, say sometime in their early to mid forties (and the onset of incipient baldness) and suddenly feel that real life, well living anyway, has passed them by and decide the only sensible thing to do is spend a whole heap of cash on a car that they more than likely had the hots for back in their younger days, of course this is guaranteed to do one thing, seriously cheese off the wife (if divorce proceedings arn't already under way by this point that is).

This superb new, slightly bigger than postcard sized, book from the Top Gear brand is a glorious revel in "crisis cars" of all ages from the gorgeousness of the MGB Roadster to the ever so slightly crazy Conte Amphibious Car to the wondrous Jensen Healey to Back to the Future starring Delorean DMC-12 and in between taking in such delights as Ferraris, Maseratis, Porsches, Jags, MGs, Mercedes, Audis, Lotus' and through to more esoteric fare such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Turbo, Reliant Scimitar (apparently this was the worlds first ever sporting estate car - an oxymoron if ever there was one!)

All very retro, Crisis Cars gives every car its own page and crisis rating (indicated by how bald you need to be to drive it) and tongue in cheek run down of the cars history. Best of all though are the car pics themselves, all taken from the original sales brochures which makes for some deliciously bad fashions and ideas of just what makes a selling point for a car (witness the family picnic by the side of the road for the Lotus eclat; The skinny blonde in the Aston Martin and the car on the beach shot for the Opel Manta.

Great fun!
