TV rights for Elizabeth Jane Howard’s famous sequence of novels The Cazalet Chronicles have been acquired by Sid Gentle Films (who have the highly anticipated SS-GB coming up soon on the BBC) with plans to turn the books, which are set between the 1930s and the 1950s, into a series that will hopefully span five seasons.
The deal was negotiated by Woodward Gentle who said “the novels are totally addictive with the ability to floor you with their turn of events. They are set in the middle of the 20th century but the themes of love, loss, repression, sex and family ties are shot through with 21st-century resonance. I am thrilled that Sid Gentle Films has the opportunity to bring this wonderfully epic family saga to a new generation of drama lovers.”
The books were previously produced by the BBC in 2001 for a six part series.
