FX GEAR UP THE AMERICANS
The Americans, the planned new drama series from FX, is gearing up for full production. It stars Matthew Rhys, Noah Emmerich and Keri Russell.
The show is a period drama about the marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington DC soon after Ronald Reagan becomes the POTUS. The arranged marriage between Phillip (Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Russell) grows more passionate each day but gets complicated by the Cold War and Phillip’s growing affinity for American values and lifestyle.
Tensions increase further when a new neighbor moves in, Stan (Emmerich), an FBI agent working in counter intelligence. FX ordered 13 episodes of The Americans with production beginning in October with an early 2013 launch planned.
The series is created by Joe Weisberg who is executive producer/showrunner along with executive producer Graham Yost. Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of DreamWorks Television are also on board as executive producers. The Americans is co-produced by Fox Television Studios and FX Productions.
