Ahead of this Sunday’s season finale of HBO’s Game of Thrones we take time to have a breather and reflect on the momentous episodes of last weeks penultimate episode Baelor (don’t read on if you haven’t seen it yet!) which saw King Joffrey ording the death of series lead Ned Stark (played by Sean Bean – who while the episode was airing was busying himself with a fight outside a London pub – he’s that tough!).
If you had read George R.R.R.R.R.R. Martins novels then you the beheading of Ned won’t have come as a huge shock and it is excellent to see the series sticking so closely to the mythology and storylines of the books but for most of us watching we certainly didn’t see it coming, it’s not everyday one of the most populars shows on TV kills off a main character – and in spectacular style too.
Apparently Stark will be making a Hamlet style reappearance in the finale to at least a couple of his kids. It sets things up for a spectacular finish but it will be interesting to see whether the move does alienate viewers or not, after all if they can kill off the lead character then nobody is safe.
Game of Thrones Season Finale Fire and Blood airs on Sunday 21 June 2011 on HBO @ 9.00pm
