With news that George R.R. Martin has yet to finish writing “The Winds of Winter” fans of Game of Thrones the TV series can officially relax and know that finally they are not behind the holier than thou book fans who like nothing better than quoting the differences between the series and the books.

Readers of Martin’s epic will really have to practice patience it seems, his publishers had hoped that the winds would have been finished by October and then the end of 2015 at the latest, which would possibly have allowed for a March release. However Martin revealed the bad news of the postponement on his blog saying “The Winds of Winter is not finished. You are disappointed, and you’re not alone. My reviewers and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed.” He also added that he was the most disappointed of all.

One thing is for sure, readers of the novels will be probably more disappointed than viewers of the series. Martin added “for years, my readers have been ahead of viewers. This year, for several reasons, it is the opposite which will be true”.

In our opinion it’s becoming less and less important for fans of the show, the original fork in the road has become a hundred different paths. Readers of course will be concerned that the tail will now be wagging the dog!

Game of Thrones returns for it’s sixth season to HBO this April.
