I WILL SURVIVE: JAMIE JEWELL ELIMINATED
In the third elimination on reality series I Will Survive 43 year old Jamie Jewell failed to make the cut – thanks in no small part to “disastrous” attempt at Jolene by Dolly Parton.
This week saw the contestants take to the streets and outback of Broken Hill, the location of most of the filming of the original Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert.
Joined by this week’s celebrity guest judge Magda Szubanski, the boys attended a dance workshop with Broken Hill’s very own Silver City Line Dancers where they learned how to do the boot-scootin’-boogie from the very best. Later, it was time for the contestants to channel their inner country music stars and showcase their new moves during solo country-western performances at a Broken Hill sheep station, and it was ‘pitchy’ Adrian, ‘shaky’ Mike and ‘tragic’ Jamie who danced themselves out of line and into the bottom three for the week.
In tonight’s episode, in a case of life imitating art, the contestants performed at the historic Palace Hotel, made famous in Priscilla, and Stephan Elliott got to relive the magic of his legendary film. But during the performance of I Love The Nightlife, the bottom three did not make it easy on the judges, with each of them pulling out show-stopping performances.
It was a tough call but someone had to go, and while Magda described him as somewhere between ‘danger and discipline’ and Stephan hailed him ‘spectacular’, ‘special’ and ‘unique’, Jamie fell just short of the competition, making him the third contestant to boogie off the I Will Survive bus.
Upon hearing the news Jamie said, “What’s been most inspirational is that I have been applauded for being a risk-taker… I think you’ve made an incredibly huge mistake.”
