Rumours are growing that Poldark star Aidan Turner is in line to take the lead in a planned BBC adaptation of H.G. Wells’ iconic novel War of the Worlds.
The scifi drama will be set in the Victorian era with the aim of being the definitive take on the novel with filming planned to take place in the original Surrey towns mentioned in the book.
The Turner for lead angle is gaining traction because the series is to be made for the BBC by Mammoth Screen who make Poldark and also produced the recent BBC Agatha Christie drama And Then There Were None (which also featured Turner in a prominent role).
So far the only names attached to the production are writer Peter Harness (who was responsible for last years Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell adaptation for the beeb) and director Neil Marshall who has previously worked on Game of Thrones.
We will of course keep you posted.
