When news came in that Steve Carell would be leaving The Office at the end of it’s seventh season we, like many of you judging by the huge number of emails we’ve had about the subject, thought that would be the end of the show, but NBC are more than with the show’s ratings (still the number one comedy on NBC) and have been eyeing off a number of high profile replacements for him including Will Ferrell, Ray Romano, the fab Catherine Tate and even series creator Ricky Gervais himself and they all popped up in guest slots throughout the second half of season seven.

What we didn’t see coming though was the announcement that James Spader, who played Robert California in the season finale, would get the nod as new lead on the series!

California will be taking over the reigns of Dunder Mifflin and will no doubt bring a completely new dynamic to the series, Spader is not exactly known for his knockabout humour filled roles but we think it’s a strong brave choice for NBC.
