Poldark: Seamus the horse steals the show

Scenes of Ross Poldark galloping across the cliff tops of Cornwall form a huge part of each episode of Poldark and as much loved as Aidan Turner has become across the country his Ross Poldark’s horse is also gathering acclaim.

As the Daily Express reports “The real dashing one in the Cornish tin mining saga is his horse Seamus.

This Irish-born steed is now so popular his owners are getting calls asking if Seamus can take a break from the TV cameras to perform the honours at shop openings. He’s even about to get his own Facebook page.

“Just like Aidan Turner had a stunt double for some scenes, you don’t take risks with your principal horse,” said Mark Atkinson, boss of Atkinson’s Action Horses, the East Yorkshire firm that provided 20 horses for the eight episodes.

“My son Ben worked as Aidan’s double on Poldark.

“So in some scenes it looks like Aidan riding Seamus, but it’s actually Ben Atkinson riding Jonny Wilkinson.”

And as we learned this week Ben did such a great job as Aidan’s stand in he is now in a relationship with Eleanor Tomlinson who plays Demelza.
