EVEN BEFORE it’s received its Australian premiere, intriguing new movie Red Hill, written, produced and directed by newcomer Patrick Hughes has been picked up for full US distribution by Sony Pictures Worldwide.
Starring Ryan Kwanten, the one time Home and Away star now making waves in the US, Red Hill travels down that classic Australian thriller/shocker route and follows police officer Shane Cooper and his pregnant wife Alice who move to the small country of Red Hill hopeful of making a new and settled life for themselves. Even before his first day on duty is over though Shane is caught up in the aftermath of a prison break, and it seems convicted murderer Jimm Conway (Tom E. Lewis from The Proposition) is back in town with revenge on his mind.
Told of the course of a single day and night Red Hill has all the hallmarks of an epic western and promises much.
Red Hill premiered at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival and was quickly snapped up by Sony’s Scott Shooman who said “Hughes has contemporized the revenge western with such style and adrenaline that we jumped at the opportunity to distribute such a bad ass movie,”
An Australian release date is yet to be confirmed
