Starz have revealed that the fourth instalment of the Spartacus franchise War of the Damned will be the final run for the show.

According to the Cynopsis Daily during the previous season of Spartacus: Vengeance, more than 6.0 million people tuned in and the program tallied more than 2.5 million Facebook fans.  Worldwide, the series is available in 150 countries in more than 15 languages.

The final season, Spartacus: War of the Damned is currently in production in New Zealand with the action following the defeat of Roman commander Gaius Claudius Glaber.  New sets for Spartacus: War of the Damned are being constructed depicting a full city, a Roman villa and the scene of the epic battle along the Appian Way.

Show creator and executive producer, Steven S. DeKnight, said “The fans have been tremendously supportive of our show.  We did not come to this decision lightly. It was an extremely difficult and emotional decision for my partners and I. Yet, in the end, the story was best served by rolling all of the remaining action and drama of Spartacus’ journey into one stunningly epic season that will be extremely satisfying for everyone who’s been along for the ride.”

The Spartacus franchise launched in January 2010 with Blood and Sand followed by the prequel season Gods of the Arena in January 2011 and Vengeance debuted on January 27, 2012.  War of the Damned is slated to premiere in January 2013 with Liam McIntyre returning in the title role as Spartacus.
