Our fascination for all things Nordic Noir continues apace with highly regarded Danish drama The Bridge premiering on SBS Two from 5 September 2012 @ 8.30pm.

The Bridge is a gripping ten-part dramatic crime series from Denmark which stars Danish actor Kim Bodnia (Pusher) and Swedish actor Sofia Helin.

In the first episode, a woman is found murdered in the middle of Øresund Bridge – right on the border between Sweden and Denmark. Saga Norén (Sofia Helin) from Malmo CID and Martin Rohde (Kim Bodnia) from the Copenhagen police department are called to the scene.

What at first looks like one murder, turns out to be two. The body has been brutally cut off at the waist and joined together – the torso of a high-profile Swedish politician and the lower body of a Danish prostitute.

The Swedish and Danish police need to cooperate in a race against the clock, desperately searching for a murderer determined to go beyond all moral limits to get his message across.

As our DVD reviewer Rob Monk remarked “The success of the series comes very much from this odd couple approach to the partnership. Both are extremely likeable in their own ways and both actors do a magnificent job in adapting to the intricacies and fine detail in the constantly shifting plot. Whereas Martin is a middle-aged family man all too susceptible to the joys and complexities of sensual pleasure, Saga lives much of her life in the cerebral world of thoughts and ideas.”
